How to Prevent Acne
To a large extent, acne is genetic and hormonal and it is very difficult to control them. However, there are things which will make you more likely to suffer from acne and so if you control those, you can go a long way towards acne prevention or at least lessening its severity.
Diet
A balanced diet rich in nutrients helps to prevent acne. Fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds are the main things rich in all the goodies which help to prevent acne. You can incorporate those easily into your diet by having a side salad with your meal and having fruit as a dessert. Brazil nuts or pumpkin seeds as a snack between meals give you the selenium and zinc which are known to help prevent acne.
You should also reduce your intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates. This means that your body is producing less insulin to try to process these sugars. This in turn means your body is making less male hormone. These hormones are what will make your skin produce more oil so that your pores become clogged and acne develops. In the same way, reducing your caffeine intake will reduce the stress hormones your body produces.
Water
Drink plenty of water every day to help prevent acne. You should have at least two liters of water and still mineral water is the best type of water to drink. The water is helpful to keep you hydrated; this means your body is better able to shed dead skin cells instead of allowing them to hang around clogging up your pores so that oils build up in your pores causing acne breakouts.
Probiotics
These are the ‘friendly bacteria’ that we hear a lot about these days. Probiotics should live in the gut naturally; we all have them, but antibiotics and other things destroy our natural bacteria and so slow down the digestion of food. This means food hangs around in our guts too long instead of being flushed out (pun intended!) in our bowel movements. This is effectively poisoning us, so the body tries to find another way to excrete the toxins and pushes them out through the skin, making an acne breakout more likely.
Supplements
We don’t all get the balanced diet we need and even if we do, sometimes our bodies can’t absorb all the vitamins we need. That means that supplements may be a big help in the prevention of acne.
Natural Products
When it comes to cleansing, perfume or cosmetics, if you are prone to acne you should only use natural products on your skin. This does not guarantee that you won’t have an acne breakout but it does lessen the likelihood as the chemicals in regular products dry out the skin so your clever old skin makes more oil to compensate. That makes your acne worse, of course.
Reduce Stress
Controlling your stress allows you to keep your levels of the hormone cortisol low. Cortisol is a big culprit in acne, so the less of that you have coursing around your body the better.
